Veneto - Venezia, canal Grande
Region of exceptional charm, in north-eastern Italy, with Venice as administrative (and historical) capital city; as a result of the significant industrial development, is now one of the richest regions of Italy. Thanks to its landscape heritage, historic, artistic and architectural is, according to recent statistics, with over 15,7 million visitors and 63,4 million tourists per year, the most visited region of Italy. The main element of the local flag of the Region, as well as its official badge, is the Lion of St. Mark, for many centuries the symbol of the Venetian Republic, the ancient Italian pre-unification state, often indicated by the simple name of “Serenissima”. For urban characteristics and for its artistic heritage, Venezia is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world and is included by UNESCO, along with its lagoon, among the most important Italian Heritage Sites. Annually the city hosts the International Film Festival, the celebrity showcase of the most acclaimed movie stars in the world . The contribution of the different cultures with which, historically, the Republic of Venezia came into contact, is also evident in the culinary traditions of the region. In fact, the presence of peculiar elements from the cultures of the Middle and the Far East can be seen both in traditional Venetian dishes and in regional recipes . Well-known, in addition to the classic Agnolini and “Rice and Bisi” (dense rice soup with green peas), the “Baccalà alla Vicentina” (Salted codfish from Vicenza), the Polenta, and many types of rice dishes, the typical “Risotti”, including the Black and the Amarone, cooked with Amarone della Valpolicella Veronese. Among the many dishes of the beautiful Verona, the potatoes gnocchi, the "Pasta e fasoi” ( “pasta and beans”, in local dialect, original recipe mentions egg pasta, lard and borlotti beans). Impossible to forget, among the Christmas cakes, the typical Pandoro, known almost anywhere, cake dusted with vanilla powder, scented with icing sugar, made to resemble the snowy peaks of the Italian Alps during Christmas.
